Kroger Savings – Free Lemonade!

May 22, 2009

I love to see other people’s shopping deals on the blogosphere…  that’s what motivated me to start my own blog.  I wanted to be able to show off my great deals too.  One of the things that I’ve seen people do before that I really like is a comparison picture that shows what you *could* have gotten for the same price had you paid full price for the things you bought.  This week’s (second) Kroger shopping trip is a great example of this!!

If I had paid full price for what I was buying at Kroger, the following picture shows what I could have gotten for the $11.00 I spent:
Kroger6

But instead, using the Country Time Lemonade coupons that I found at Publix, the weekly sale items, and a (surprise!) Kroger 3-day sale, I was able to get all of this for $11.00:
Kroger5

Here’s the price breakdown:
(8) Country Time Lemonade – On sale 10/ $10, (8) $1.00 off coupons, Final Price:  FREE!

Imitation Crab Meat – On sale for buy-one-get-one-free or $3.49/ 2, Final Price:  $1.74

(2) Kroger Cream Cheese – On sale 10/ $10, Final Price:  $1.00 each

Minute Maid Cherry Limeade – On sale for $0.99, Final Price:  $0.99
*I tried it yesterday, it’s almost as good as Sonic!

(4) Kroger Potato Chips – On sale with the 3-day sale (Thursday – Saturday) for 2/ $3, Final Price:  $1.50 each

Total Savings:   $32.21   (75%)

Total out of Pocket:   $11.29

This is a new Kroger best for me!!

Fantastic Deal Alert!

May 21, 2009

I wanted to pass along a few great deals that I saw at Publix today:

At the front of my Publix (metro-Atlanta area) there is a cardboard Kraft display that looks like a gray grill with two great coupons for this week’s Publix and Kroger sales.  The coupons are:

– $1.00 off any Country Time lemonade

– $2.00 off any meat/ poultry with the purchase of two qualifying products (they include:  Kraft BBQ sauce, Kraft Dressings, A-1, Kraft Mayo, and Miracle Whip)

Country Time Lemonade is on sale 10/ $10 at Kroger.  The coupon makes them FREE!  (I got 8 today!)

All of the qualifying products for the meat deal are buy one get one free (with corresponding coupons, of course!) at Publix.  I got 3 packs of meat for almost free!

Be on the lookout for that cardboard grill!!

Always looking out for us!

Thanks (again!) to Jenny at Southern Savers for the reminder that there are NO COUPONS in this Sunday’s paper (5/24)

Vegetable Garden, Part 1

May 19, 2009

I have been meaning to blog about our vegetable garden.  I had the best intentions of photographing the whole process; from growing the seeds inside to planting the garden to harvesting our bounty…  Well, I’m sorry to say, that just didn’t happen!  But I’m hoping to start now and follow the rest of the process…..

This is our first attempt at a vegetable garden and it seems to be going pretty well.  We have (from seeds) two types of green beans, cantaloupe, and two types of peppers and (from plants) squash, eggplant, tomatoes, and cucumbers.  We originally tried eggplant and squash from seeds, but the eggplant never sprouted and the squash got eaten when they were teeny tiny little sprouts.

My husband and I live (by most standards) in the country.  Our backyard backs up to 8 acres or so of green space that is home to plenty of wild animals.  When the baby squash disappeared overnight, we weren’t sure if it was deer or bunnies.  We decided that we should probably put a fence around our garden to try to discourage it from becoming a summer-long salad bar for the neighbors….  I am happy to report that since we put up the fence, no plants have been eaten.  And I was able to catch a glimpse of the culprit….  These were taken out our bedroom window.

I just happened to be walking by the window at the right time....

Kroger Savings – Best yet! 74%

May 19, 2009

Oh my word!!  I had my best yet savings trip to Kroger today.  I was amazed when I got my receipt and saw my total savings.  It was awesome!!  I got a handful of items free and I was able to stock up on items for my upcoming b-day paaaaartay.  There were “$1 off 2 Oscar Mayer hotdogs” blinkie coupons right in the meat case!  Talk about great timing.  I was also waiting on a good price for Tang.  I read somewhere a few years ago to run powdered Tang through your empty dishwasher to clean it.  I’ve been using it ever since and I had recently run out.  I’m not sure if it’s the acidity in the Tang or what, but it always works like a charm!  (Edited to Add:  Ok, I looked it up…..   It’s the citric acid.  You can also use unsweetened Kool-Aid.  Many people like lime for the freshly cleaned smell.)

Here is what I got:

I was excited to see the Publix sales this week!  We could really use a few new Aim-N-Flames.  The only one we own (that I got at the Dollar Tree) always seems to end up in my craft room.  I use it to heat seal the ends of  hair bows that I make, so anytime my husband is ready to light the grill, I have to search through the mess to find it.  For $0.75 each we can keep one upstairs in the craft room and one downstairs in the kitchen, it’s perfect!!  I was also interested to see if my Publix would take a manufacturer’s coupon and a Target coupon for the Kraft Cheese.  They always take CVS and Kroger coupons as competitors, but they’ve been a little iffy about taking Target ones.  Well, this shopping trip, I’m happy to report, that they took the Target coupon with no questions asked!  Here is what I got:

Arbys

During the month of May Arby’s is giving away free items on Wednesdays!  My sister, super-duper blog assistant niece, and I went to check out the free Roastburgers for lunch today.  Our local Arby’s was HOPPING!  There were flags, signs, a tent, and an inflatable moon walk for the kids.  It was like a carnival!  I got my lunch of a free Roastburger with the purchase of a drink and an order of fries for less than $3.50!  I love the Bacon Blue Roastburger, it’s awesome.  We had a great time and are looking forward to going next week for our free shakes!

No coupons were necessary!  All you had to do was purchase a drink and you got a free Roastburger.  The employees also told us that they will continue this promotion in June too, but the calendar has not been released yet.  I think this will become a weekly tradition for sure!

Edited to add:
The blogosphere is a FANTASTIC place!!  STL Mommy has the full summer schedule of freebies posted, go check it out!
